If they were good enough, they won the battle. If they weren’t it was straight into the cells for an early shower (especially the monsters) and the wrath of their enemy to face in the morning. They had one chance to escape, but in this game most of them blew it. The Ninjas, however, through cunning, guile and the supreme efforts of two of them, earned enough points to break free and win their treasure.

All the way through the game we encouraged people to keep completing missions, and they did. Sending in entries through sms/mms, over email and through Facebook... We ended up with a whole gallery of stuff coming through, some of which you can see here:

The Game

People all over the world signed up to play our first big community game, Monsters vs Ninjas vs Pirates. We had a bunch of people in our respective home bases of the UK and Denmark, as well as people from Egypt, the US, Singapore and Australia, all acting out there roles and posting back the proof for us to post.

And they really got into it.

First we had to make sure they were good enough to wear their faction badge with honour. So we set up training missions that involved getting faction disguises and proving their fearsome skills. Check out the pictures over on the left. We had our Ninja’s dressing up and hiding ready to pounce on unsuspecting enemies. Our Pirates had to find their very own bespoke pirate hat while our Monsters spent most of their time trying to find new ways of being scary.

And then... they had to take their new images out and show them off to the public. If you happend to chance upon someone quietly drinking at a bar dressed like Frankenstein’s monster, the chances are it was one of ours...

Once everyone was fully qualified, the quest began in earnest. All factions had the same basic tasks to complete. The question was how fast would they do it, and how good they’d look...

Each player had to a set of missions leading up to a big attack on an enemy stronghold. For Ninjas this was a Samurai castle full of gold, for Monsters a village full of people to eat. They had to scout around the area, find somewhere high up that they could spy on their enemy, then make their attack. The most creative efforts got the most points, and we spliced together their photos and videos afterwards in massive combat mash-up.
